Description
The tango is a dance that originated in the 1880s in the regions of Argentina and Uruguay.
It was often performed in bars (near the harbor) by a hired band.
The dance is usually in 4/4 time, in a minor key, with a harmonic cadence.
This jazzy tango is primarily characterized by its pronounced rhythm (syncopations) and accents, which also give it a jazzy touch.
There is also a melodic section, but the piano clearly maintains the 4/4 time.
At the end, there is a melodic cadence based on the theme.
The waltz is also a dance, originating from folk music from southern Germany and Austria.
It is characterized by 3/4 time.
This Jazzy Waltz is rich in syncopations, alternating with melodic lines and extended (7th and 9th) chords.
The use of accents also makes the waltz extra jazzy, and careful attention must be paid to them.
The Jazzy Waltz is inspired by the music of Toots Thielemans, Dave Brubeck, John Coltrane, and others.
After the Jazzy Waltz, the piece concludes with a reprise of the tango theme.
